Winter is synonymous with flu season. But how can cannabis help you there? Doesn’t smoking irritate the throat and lungs making it worse? True, it does. Smoking causes lung inflammation but it is not the only way to consume marijuana. There are other ways to benefit from the healing properties of the plant such as vaping, consuming cannabis oil, tinctures or edibles. Studies say that flavonoids found in plants have anti-inflammatory and anti-viral properties. The flavonoids in cannabis have anti-oxidants that can fix the body imbalance that comes from sicknesses. Here are a few ways to consume cannabis when you are down with the flu.
Ingesting cannabis in healthy ways will not irritate the throat and lungs. This way you can enjoy all the advantages of CBD and THC without suffering from side-effects. Try cannabis infused edibles or even better, drink cannabis infused tea which is one of the healthiest beverages loaded with nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants.
Many cannabinoids and terpenes in cannabis are said to have antibiotic effects. Look for raw CBDA and THCA tinctures that are blended in specific, health-aiding ratios. Just drizzle a few drops into soups, porridge, salads or any food for that matter.
Cannabis tea can help you relax, sleep and feel better, relieve pain, reduces anxiety and inflammation. Avoid having it several times a day. Nothing in excess is good for health. Have it once a day instead.
THC in cannabis tea eases nausea and aids gastrointestinal relief. Do remember that THC is not water soluble. Heat cannabis with milk, butter or coconut oil to let the THC molecules blend into the fat molecules for a psychoactive solution to power your tea. Here’s the recipe:
½ gm cannabis flower (dried or fresh)
½ teaspoon milk (or butter or coconut oil)
1 tea bag
2 cups water
Honey to taste (optional)
Grind the cannabis flower or crush it coarsely between your palms. Mix it with the butter, milk or coconut oil in a saucepan and simmer on low heat. Add a teabag and simmer for about 30 minutes more. Remove the tea bag, strain the mixture. Cool to a comfortable temperature before sipping or serving immediately. Add honey if you like it sweeter.
Cannabis infused honey is also relaxing. Add a teaspoon or two to your tea until its dissolved.
Cannabis oil and tinctures are made for oral use or topical application. Extract a few drops in the dripper provided with the bottle, place it under your tongue for a few seconds and swallow. Cannabis oil does not cause any irritation. There are multi-herb tinctures and oils blended with ginger and echinacea that protect you from colds, lessen the effect or boost your immunity.
Buy a high-quality vaporizer that will remove the carcinogens before vaping. You can also steam it. Place a few drops in a smoking hot bowl of water and inhale the vapour for deep relief.
